Notes:This work is possibly entitled 'Chloé', exhibited by Waite as part of the Australian Artists Association, Melbourne, Summer Exhibition, March 1887. In reporting on the exhibition, March 5th 1887, The Argus states: "Mr J.C. Waite sends in ... a half-length figure entitled 'Chloé' which is stated to be a portrait of the young lady who sat to M. Lefebvre as a model for the picture of the same name [famous Young & Jackson 'Chloé']. It is a charming head and face, with the roundness, freshness, and bloom of youth in the countenance, and a look of innocence and simplicity, which is not always associated with the female models of Parisian artists." As the subject of the 1875 Lefebvre picture is thought to have been a French model named Marie (the 'Chloé' comes from the poem 'Mnasyle et Chloé') the newspaper attribution is not confirmed.
