Lot Description:Three Beautiful Japanese Burlwood Okimono Sculptures
an Okimono is a carved Japanese decorative object created specifically for display. These beautiful and mysterious objects are burlwood Okimono from Japan. They are in the form of an Inari Fox, a Tiger and what looks like to Prawn or Shrimp. The artists tried to find the form and spirit of each found piece of wood in the forest.
H 13 - 27 cm -
Provenance:The Todd Barlin Collection of Asian Art
-
Notes:The Japanese aesthetic of using natural forms in wood with minimal additions by the artist are some of the most beautiful objects in my collection. This is a Wabi-Sabi Okimono may have been used in tea ceremonies.
