    A silvered bronze circular mirror
    Qin to early Western Han dynasty
    with box, 15.5cm diam.
  • Provenance:
    C. C. Teng, Taipei, no.002418 (label); The Hsiao family collection, Melbourne
  • Notes:
    The stylised panchi-motif, a coiled dragon with no feet, is quintessential of the Qin and early Han dynasty. Many similar mirrors are seen in numerous important collections, compare with one previously in the Robert Ellsworth collection, albeit larger, see Christie's New York, 22 Mar 2012, lot 1407, and another one in the collection of Xianyang Municipal Museum, which was exhibited with The First Emperor: China's Entombed Warriors, Art Gallery of New South Wales.
