  At a time when reading was the most popular form of home entertainment, people would lend their books to family, friends and colleagues. To identify ownership, book plates were often affixed to the inside front cover of the item, to ensure the tome was returned to the rightful owner. Designing bookplates is a practise that has almost disappeared. This group of unframed bookplates is from the 1920’s and include examples of the design work of Philip Lichfield, Percy Neville Barnett, Roy Davies, Pixie O’Harris and others. (26)
