Lot Description:An Australian carved cedar and specimen wood inlaid frame by Captain Joseph Creese, circa 1856-1940
89 x 71cm (frame) -
Notes:Captain Joseph Creese was one of the last keepers of the Derwent Lighthouse, also known as the Iron Pot Lighthouse. During his time as a lighthouse keeper Captain Creese was known to have made a number of these frames and probably including the present example. Typical of the style of the pieces he created the work shows a talent for the laborious task of stippling and inlaying various timbers.
