Lot Description:Victorian Sterling Silver Collapsible Cup
hallmarked Birmingham,1859, A&S (Aston & Sons), the cup constructed from three graduated concentric bands opening telescopically, the exterior decorated in all over engine turned decoration and gilt wash interior, with engraved presentation inscription to top band marked 'Gig Race/Melbourne/Regatta/1861' within depiction of garter belt, set in original fitted leather case decorated with gilt rosette and blue velvet interior, total silver weight 93gm, height 7.5cm x diameter 6.5cm -
Notes:The first Melbourne Amateur Regatta conducted on the Yarra River for sweep oared rowing was held in 1860 and continued until 1903.
