  the paddle on the left is from Swagap Village, Upper Sepik River, in the form of a stylised Totemic Crocodile and the Paddle on the right is from the Middle Sepik River Area, in the form of a finely carved Crocodile head.

  Crocodiles are a very important clan totem in Sepik River area where initiated men get Crocodile Scarification on their backs & chest and they are respected for their strength and guile.
