Lot Description:A Finely Carved Neckrest, Tami or Siassi Island, Huon Gulf Area, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, Mid-20th Century
in the form two finely carved ancestor figure supports in & painted with old red paint a high prestige item in PNG. One of the oldest Huon Gulf Artworks I ever owned a Janus Ancestor figure was collected in the 1890s and had red trade paint that was acquired from German Colonials. The red paint on this old Neckrest looks very similar.
