Lot Description:A Fine Old Abelam Ceremonial Stake, Together with a Fine Old Kwoma People Sago Washing Peg, Waskuk Area, Upper Sepik River, Papua New Guinea
a fine old Abelam ceremonial stake with beautifully carved bird sitting on top of an ancestor's head with remnants ochre paint. This was used during important ceremonies where it was inserted through shell money rings called yua for display. Both on custom stands.
