One of his Majesty's most Honorable Privy Council, and President of the Royal Society, This Map is Respectfully Dedicated by His much obliged Humble Sertv.t, A. Arrowsmith. London: Aaron Arrowsmith, 1798. Original colour. Four sheets, dissected and laid on linen as one, as issued, total 1280 x 1500mm. Paper toned, a few knocks to edges. -
Notes:A large antique wall map of Europe, with a fine title cartouche illustrating the Iron Bridge over the Severn at Coalbrookdale, opened 1781, the world's first arched bridge made out of cast iron. The dedication is to Joseph Banks, the botanist on Cook's first circumnavigation, and later a driving force behind the voyages of George Vancouver and William Bligh's breadfruit mission. 128 x 149 cm
