Notes:This painting forms part of Ragamala (Garland of Ragas or melodies) paintings and depicts one of the six major ragas of North Indian classical music - Deepak Raag which is supposed to light up fire when performed by a master musician. The Ragamala paintings illustrate six major ragas, thirty raginis (called the èwives' of ragas). These paintings depict the mood of the melody, the time of the day it should be performed and symbolic depiction of the mood and emotion it is supposed to evoke.
