Lot Description:MARIANNE BRANDT “NAPKIN HOLDER” manufactured by the Viennese firm J.C. KLINKOSCH, circa 1930
in Austrian 800 silver with gold washed interior,
13cm high, 21cm wide, 260 grams. -
Notes:Marianne Brandt (1893 - 1983), one of the most celebrated of the Bauhaus students became a Master and headed the metal workshop from 1928. J.C. KLINKOSCH is known to have produced silver pieces for Wiener Werkstätte designers. Established in the 1790s, in 1884 when Josef Klinkosch retired, the company passed to his two sons, Arthur and Isidor. In 1918, the company was acquired by Arthur Krupp and was incorporated under the name ‘J.C. Klinkosch AG’. Another of Krupp’s firms was METALLWARENFABRIK RUPPELWERK who made the original, but rarely seen, tin and enamel versions of this piece. The only example we have been able to find in silver.
