Notes:The subject of this cartoon depicting then prime-minister John Curtin was the defeat of the '14 powers' or '14 points referendum,' & proposal to extend wartime controls over (amongst other things) the nationalisation of employment for an additional five years. The referendum's defeat constituted the first conservative success in such a contest in many years.
