Belonging to Lt. Col, Stephen R Malarkey, 1900, Struck London by R & S Garrard & Co Silversmiths
Condition: Ribbon and baize backing in good condition, medal and badge tarnished. -
Notes:(Excerpt from Truth Sydney 14th Sept 1913) Stephen Mallarky. whose remains were interred at Gore Hill on the 5th, was a Sydney native, born in Pitt-street, where his father carried on a cooper's yard and his mother dealt in ladies' finery. The colonel was born in 1848, and entered the Government Printing Office at the age of sixteen. He retired Three Years ago on pension as chief draughtsman and in charge. As to Soldiering, he joined as a full private the Suburban Battalion nearly 30 years ago, and worked his way up until he received a commission in the Ashfield Company. He was major in the Second Infantry Regiment, which has since become the 24th Regiment, and retired after serving his full-term. He gained the Volunteer long service medal. The funeral was largely attended. (Photo for Provenance reference only)
