Notes:The term “datu” denotes the rulers of various indigenous peoples throughout the Philippines, especially in the Visayas and Mindanao regions of the southern Philippines. In the traditional structure of the Moro societies of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago the Sultans were the highest authority, followed by Datus or Rajah. The peoples of this region have many similarities with Malay and some Indonesian groups.
