Notes:In 1846, bored with farming, John Horrocks set out on a privately funded expedition to explore the country North East of Mount Arden, between Port Augusta and Lake Torrens in South Australia. The party included Gill as an unpaid draftsman. This provides rare evidence of the location of at least the first of these images. A rare collection of high quality watercolours by S.T. Gill, which is being offered intact.
