Lot Description:MELBOURNE STOCK EXCHANGE twin pedestal partners desk, Australian cedar with embossed leather top, 19th century
92cm high overall, 153cm wide, 122cm deep. -
Notes:Each member of the exchange paid a yearly subscription for a post-box drawer within the partners desk addressed to The Exchange, Hall Of Commerce, Melbourne. Drawer number one still contains a selection of mineral specimens from the Broken Hill region and is believed to be linked to the corporation of BHP Ltd. Accompanied by a framed facsimile photograph of the interior of the original Melbourne Stock Exchange with Exchange President Robert Wallen seated at the desk. The photo was taken around 1880, four years before the new Stock Exchange was moved across the road in Collins Street.
