Notes:In 1966-67, Nolan produced a series of large-scale drawings to illustrate his friend, renowned American poet Robert Lowell's masterly translations of Aeschylus' Oresteia trilogy. The present work relates to his first play in the trilogy, Agamemnon, which deals with the victorious homecoming of Agamemnon. King of Mycenae, from the Trojan War, and his murder by his wife, Queen Clytemnestra, as revenge for the sacrifice of her daughter Iphigenia.
