Lot Description:HENRY ROOKS (Doncaster, 1864 - Camberwell,1930) ornate silver-gilt badge
(by P. Blashki & Sons, Swanston St.,) with Eastern Hemisphere map on front, engraved “M.U.I.O.F” and on reverse “Presented to Bro. HENRY ROOKS P.P.G.M. by the officers of the Loyal Camberwell Lodge No.1584. M.U.I.O.F. as a token of esteem and for the services rendered to the Lodge during the TWO YEARS OF HIS OFFICE. 3rd Dec. 1895”. In original silk-lined box of presentation. -
Notes:Henry Rooks was a Councillor for Centre Riding on Boroondara Shire Council, Mayor of Camberwell on 3 occasions and Councillor for South Ward on Camberwell Council and a prominent resident of Camberwell. He was a member of the Fire Brigades Board and Swinburne Technical College Council. Professionally, he had been a coachbuilder in Camberwell (on the site that is now Camberwell Market), in partnership with his brother, Edward.
