Neil came from a family of passionate and dedicated firemen. His father was Chief of the Thames Brigade for many years and both his father and uncle were holders of the Gold Star Award. Neil joined the Fire Service in Papatoetoe in 1966 and served there until 1974 as Station keeper. He then moved back to Thames and after some years was able to rejoin the Fire Service with the Thames Brigade in 1992. Neil started collecting Fire Service memorabilia from an early age and in later years was a passionate collector as can be seen from this collection.
