    GIPSY MAJOR SERIES ONE AERO ENGINE
    Manufactured by DeHavilland in 1942. Engine No. CSA 1132. Overhauled by Platinum 300 Nil time with engine logbook. The Gipsy Major (created in 1932) has a capacity of 6.12Litres and a max power if 130hp at 2350 revs. It is a 4 cylinder normally aspirated inverted in line piston engine with overhead valves. Weight is 300lb (136kg)
  • Notes:
    The Gipsy series of engines trace their ancestry back to WWI via the early air cooled Renault engines. Ignition is via two BTH AG4 magnetos supplying spark to 4 spark plus on either side of the engine. At the time of its introduction aero engines were commonly overhauled every 100 hours. A major selling point of the Gipsy Major was an overhaul life of 450 hrs. (today 1500hrs) The Gipsy Major was used to power the Tiger Moth and other DeHavilland aircraft of the same vintage.
