  • Notes:
The Ferrari 355 outperformed any other Ferrari before it with an 8-cylinder aspirated engine and therefore remanded a body designed to the highest aerodynamic standards. The spoiler at the front was shaped to optimise the airflow being channelled in to the underbody for negative lift and on the sides the air ducts are generously proportioned and merge in to the aerodynamically shaped sills which contribute to the fairing wheels – a vital element to a car fitted with section tyres. These fabulous features were achieved through rigorous development involving over 1300 hours of wind tunnel analysis. The F355 Spider was released a year after the coupe completing the body line-up that also included the Berlinetta and the Targa. Unlike the familiar Ferrari nomenclature which is made up of the engine capacity and the number of cylinders, the formula for the 355 is derived from the engine capacity and the number of valves per cylinder. In this case, a 3.5-litre engine capacity and 5 valves per cylinder. This highly successful model was the first car on which Ferrari used the electronically powered semi-automatic soft top. The typical superlative interior is upholstered with hides from Connolly Leather. The seats are fitted asymmetrically in the car which means the driver is seated slightly closer to the centre line of the car than the passenger. In 1997, the F1 transmission was offered for the Spider which ultimately took this superlative machine in both its technical merit and design to be the second-most popular F355 model, with a total production of 3,717 units, of which 2,664 were produced with the 6-speed transmission plus 1,053 built with the F1 transmission. Another milestone reached with the F355 is that this model is the last in the series of mid-engined Ferraris with the Flying Buttress rear window, illustriously carrying this lineage with the 1965 Dino 206 GT. It has a top speed of 295 kmh and produces torque of 268 lb-ft. at 6000 RPM. It is a longitudinal, rear mid-engined V-8, with a 5-valve per cylinder head, with a Motronic system which controls the electronic fuel injection and ignition systems. This car is a traditional 6-speed manual example, rear-wheel drive with ventilated disk brakes front and rear. This Australian delivered factory right hand drive example was produced on 1/5/97 and delivered 2/12/97. This 355 is painted Rosso Corsa with black leather interior and was purchased by the current owner around nine years ago with approx. 12,000 KM on the clock. Since then it’s been driven sparingly and serviced at Zagame, Melbourne and Terzini Motore, Brighton. The fastidious owner insisted that this car be brought to the market after having its full major service carried out at Zagame, being in April 2017. This full major service included timing belts, all fluid, all filters & spark plugs and invoices for this and earlier works available upon request. With less than 20,000 kms covered this 355 Spider is likely the lowest KM’s example on the market in Australia and presents a rare opportunity for a discerning collector. If purchased by a Victorian buyer, a RWC with be supplied post auction by the vendor.
