  HAROLD PARSONS: A collection of items relating to Victorian Motorcyclist Harold Albert (Ranji) Parsons
  including; an Edwardian 9 carat yellow gold fob by Larard Brothers Melbourne inscribed "Castlemaine Hill Climb, Won by H.A.Parsons, 26.1.18"; an early Indian Chief lapel brooch cast to reverse "Indian Motorcycles" and maker mark of W & H Co; two photographic post cards both of which are signed in pencil by Parsons; together with four photographs featuring record attempts; his funeral procession and grave site at Boroondara Cemetery Kew. On the 27th/28th Aug 1920 in Sale Victoria, 24 world records were broken by Parsons in the 24hrs of riding 1114.5 miles in 24 hrs averaging 50 MPH and 50 MPG. 579 miles in 12 hours & every distance record up to 24 Hrs. Parsons was born in 1893 and lived at 22 Hoddle Street, Richmond. He became a mechanic at Turner Brothers, Harley-Davidson agents, in 1916. He won many motorcycling championships in four states and in August 1920 established a world record for 24 hours with a ride of 1114.25 miles on his Indian Scout 600cc. In 1921, he and a mechanic friend were testing their bikes when Parsons collided with a straying horse and later died in hospital. Over 1000 people attended the funeral and 100 motorcyclists formed a guard of honour. The Victorian Motor Cycle Club erected a monument with subscriptions and is located at Weedon Reserve, corner of Wellington Parade & Punt Road East Melbourne.
