  "The Pig Root" is State Highway 85 in the South Island servicing Maniototo Plains and the North and Central Otago regions of the South Island between the major settlements of Alexandra and Palmerston. Wilson, a noted painter of majestic South Island scenes is recorded as saying, "this remarkable country has taught me so much about myself. I feel such a strong spiritual sense of belonging in these areas ..." Labelled to the back "The Gods" - Across The Pig Root. A name given to Highway 85 which leads from Palmerston to the Maniototo Plains. Such a strange, prehistoric place, giant monuments created for the Gods of an ancient, long forgotten race. A wondrous carpet for lichens and tussock soften this harsh barren place."
