Lot Description:1968 Shelby GT-350 Fastback Mustang
Serial No. 8T02J130881-00783. -
Notes:The GT350's lighter weight up front provided a handling advantage over its big-block pony sibling. With a power rating the same as the heralded Boss 302, the 1968 GT350's bigger-inch 351 put more torque to the pavement, especially at low speeds. The Shelby differed dramatically from the standard Mustang with fiberglass nose, NACA-scooped hood, side scoops, and duck-tailed rear end with sequential Thunderbird tail lights, along with aluminum five-spoke wheels and the first-time use of reflective side stripes. Inside, the deluxe Mustang interior was enhanced with a roll bar, unique 140 MPH speedometer, and console-mounted gauge pod for ammeter and oil pressure readings. Although not reflected in the final horsepower rating, the factory 351W cast-iron intake manifold was replaced by a Shelby aluminum version topped by an Autolite 4-barrel carburetor and cold-air induction air cleaner that sealed to the hood's center NACA scoop. <R>This Shelby was part of the Hertz Rent-a-Racer program. This car was actually produced on December 14 1967, six days ahead of schedule.
