Blenheim, Convict Transport. Wellesley, Viscount. Original manuscript Convict Index for the convict transport Blenheim, 24th July 1834
Eight double-page vellum leaves plus one half (i.e. 34 pages), single horizontal fold, sewn, preserved in a fine modern felt-lined quarter morocco bookform box. Dublin Castle, 24 July 1834. Manuscript list of convicts transferred from Dublin Castle Prison to the Blenheim, 1834, under the signature and seal of Viscount Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant General and General Governor of Ireland. An important legal document in the process of convict transportation which not only served as an index of convicts but was also the actual legal instrument by which the “Services of 200 Convicts” was “transferred to the Governor of New South Wales” and placed at his disposal. The Blenheim departed Cork on 27 July 1834 with a detachment of the 50th Regiment and 200 convicts. It reached Port Jackson on 14 November 1834.
