    A Victorian Scottish dirk with the crest of the 71st Highland Light Infantry
    the single edged blade with jimped spine, etched with regimental crest, motto and list of actions including Waterloo and Sebastopol, and with maker’s name: Johnston & Son, London. The hilt with cairngorm pommel, studded basket-weave carving and trophy group of bear skin and crossed swords, verso a thistle. The scabbard with gilt metal mounts decorated with crest and thistles, mounted with small knife and fork. Length 430.

    The lot is from the Estate of Rena Frances Brodie are associated with Capt. Francis Brodie, born Scotland, served with the 71st (Highland) Light Infantry (Lieut.), died at his home at Lake St John, Remuera,1916, Auckland Town Clerk 1870s, an awardee of 400 acres under the Military Settlers Act 1889.
