    A pair of Russian glazed terracotta caryatid bacchanalian figures of Pan and Syrinx
    each playing a flute and pipes by Vadim Androusov (Russian 1895-1975, active in Paris each raised on pedestals
    145 cm high overall
  • Notes:
    In the wake of the Russian revolution and ensuing civil war, Androusov left Russia for Paris where he took classes at the Academie De La Grande Chaumiere under the direction of Antoine Bourdelle. His earliest sculptures usually in terracotta date from the Art Deco period drawing his inspiration from classical antiquity. Alongside his work as a sculptor Vadim Androusov is well known as a collaborator of the leading interior designers of the day including André Arbus and Jean Pascaud His works are represented in art institutions worldwide including Paris, Toulouse, Albi, Philadelphia and The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne
