    A male Huia beak and rose gold mounted pendant
    the plain oval cap mount with wavy edge, the beak of natural shorter length. Length overall 50. Note: the Huia bird was remarkable for having the most pronounced sexual dimorphism in bill shape of any bird species in the world. The extinction of the Huia in the early 20thC was due to rampant overhunting to procure mounted specimens, by museums and private collectors, the deforestation of the bird’s habitat by European settlers to create pasture also lead to their demise.
