  In April 1980 Nolan visited China as a guest of the Cultural Ministry travelling west up the Yangtze River. This and his previous trips to China in 1965 and 1978 inspired a significant series of works in the 1980s. This painting depicts the famous and historically important Moon mountain and the mountain range in the Guilin province. This work is highly significant as only a handful of Australian artists ever visited China during the Ôclosed' period of Chinese history including Ian Fairweather and Sidney Nolan. § Indicates that Resale Royalty of 5% will be applied to the hammer price of this work.
