A rare New Zealand silver Scottish buckle brooch by Young & Co.
Auckland, of wide circular form, the interior belt and buckle band cast with 'VINCERE VEL MORI', (To Conquer or Die), the open central section with applied flaming form, stamped maker's mark to the reverse 'Young & Co., Silver'. Diameter 90, weight 67.5gms. The motto relates to either the McDowell, Maclain or the Lochbuie clan.
