  • Lot Description:
    A 1955 Triumph Speed Twin
Formed as a bicycle company in 1885, Triumph became a proper motorcycle company in 1936 with the launch of the Speed Twin which lays claim to being the world's first fast and reliable mass produced motorbike. Linked with superstars such as Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen, James Dean Bob Dylan, and even the Fonz", a Triumph motorbike is the epitome of cool. 1955 saw big changes to the 500cc Speed Twin for the first time in a decade. Whilst still retaining the small 7' front brake, swing-arm suspension was adopted, whilst rare suspension was by a pair of Girling shock absorbers. The Speed Twin was also the first Triumph model to utilise the new Amal Monobloc carburettor. A new style Lucas distributor with reduced ignition advance was also fitted whilst an improved seat was also in evidence. This stunning example in Amaranth Red is very original and in exceptional running order and condition. This superb example on offer is extensively featured in the definitive Triumph book by Ian Falloon entitled 'The Complete Book of Classic and Modern Triumph Motorcycles 1937 - Today', first published in 2015."
