Correspondence between the Wesleyan Missionary Committee and the Right Honourable Earl Grey
Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonial Department, on the apprehended infringement of the Treaty of Waitangi : as published in the Report of the Wesleyan Missionary Society, for 1848. 1st ed. London : P P Thoms, Printer, [1848?]. 8vo. 36p. 5983. Rebound. Grey cloth. Original green paper front cover mounted on upper board. Slight trimming to contents. Some foxing to contents. At head of title: 'New Zealand.' The Committee expressed its concern about the apparent misinterpretation of the provisions of the Treaty in respect of Maori rights in dispatches from Earl Grey (dated 23 December 1846) and Sir George Grey (7 April 1847); a lengthy restatement of the views of Hobson, the British Government and the missionaries. Earl Grey's letter of 13 April 1848 reassured the Committee that there had been no change in policy and Beecham on behalf of the Society accepted the Minister's statement in his acknowledgement of 27 April.
