    Victoria Cross interest: an Edwardian sterling silver two-handled cup by Charles Pilling, London 1905
    engraved with a Victorian cross and inscribed 'Lieut. C.L. Smith V.C, a Son and Hero of Whippingham Parish'. 12.8cm high, 136 grams, together with a photocopy photograph of C. Smith. (2)
  • Notes:
    Brigadier General Clement Leslie Smith (1878 - 1927) was a lieutenant in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry when he won his V.C during the Boer War, when he helped try to rescue a hospital assistant under intense fire. In WW1 he helped form and command the Imperial Camel Corps Brigade. The Imperial Camel Corps was established in 1916, mainly of ANZAC's who had served at Gallipoli. The Corp was an integral part of the war in the Western Desert and was involved in the attack of Beersheba, and Battles of Magdhaba, Romani and Gaza.
