    An Australian silver tray by William Edwards of Melbourne, circa 1865
    engraved with scrolling grapevines within a cast border of classical masks, mythical beasts & grape filled urns, marked "W.EDWARDS/MELBOURNE" 23.5cm diameter, 530 grams. For a similar salver with pierced cast border see The Altman Collection, National Gallery of Victoria. The border is copied from a design used by the London silversmith Steven Smith. It is possible that Edwards cast the border from a Smith piece.
