  • Notes:
    Triumph unveiled the Dolomite Sprint in June 1973 with great success. Leading the engineering team, Spen King, developed a 16-valve cylinder head actuating on a single camshaft rather than the DOHC arrangement. With an increase in capacity to 2 litres, the output was upped to 127 bhp with bigger carburettors, however, it fell short of the original target of 135 bhp. Results were good in testing but production was less successful leading to the original model, the Dolomite 135, being usurped with the Sprint title. The new engine resulted in the Dolomite Sprint's claim as the world's first truly mass-produced multi-valve car, winning a British Design Council award in 1974. Excellent performance led to an upgraded driveline, gear box and differential replaced with a close ratio gear-set and LSD. Front disk brakes and larger rear drums utilised the latest high tech equipment. In the first series of The Professionals Bodie drove a white Dolomite Sprint further endorsing its place in popular culture. The Dolomite Sprint was campaigned in the British Touring Car Championship from 1974 to 1978 with Andy Rouse winning the Drivers' Championship in 1975 and the manufacturer's title in 1974 with team mate, Tony Dron and achieved fifth overall at Spa 24 hours and Dron, 3rd place overall in the RAC Tourist Trophy in 1974. This 1977-1984 Group C Touring car built by Ron Hodgson Racing in 1977 and originally owned by Ralph Radburn debuted at Amaroo Park Raceway in 1977 and most significantly entered the Bathurst 1000 in that year. Its last recorded event was Oran Park in 2001. At the outset this car 'was purpose built-based on the '75 BTCC ÔBroadspeed' Group 1 spec. The Radburn car had the option of twin 2' SU's, or 50mm DCOE Webers with a single choke. This increased power from 127 to almost 165 BHP. British Leyland (BL) homologated a wide ratio O/D gearbox (low 2nd. and high 3rd.), giving a superb CR effect and variable rate/height springs were combined with Bilstein/Armstrong shocks. Adjustable anti-roll bars with super-hard Ôrubber' bushes locating the upper wishbones and the standard LSD, with alternate ratios available through Leyland Special Tuning (ST). Power came on mid-range and lasted to near 7500 RPM." From 1977 at Amaroo Park, the original logbook denotes competition at Sandown, Calder, Winton, AIR, Symons Plains, and Oran Park to 2001. Major events: Hang Ten 500, Bathurst 1000, Semperit Series. From 1992 to 2000, Category 2 racing. In 2004, an Historic Group C Log Book was issued with Certificate of Description. This car reflects the first upgrade by Gerald Kay, JAGPARTS Dolomite Team manager, from 1980. Upgrades included homologated twin 48MM Weber DCOE carbs increasing output to near 210 BHP. A big bore exhaust together with LED ignition (Luminition), fibreglass flares for wider slicks added to the independent wishbone front suspension; coil-over shocks; live axle-trailing arms; anti-sway bar; rose-jointed suspension links, CR rack and pinion steering. Servo assisted Lockheed-AP (four pot) front callipers, large drums on the rear with competition shoes added and a competition 216mm diaphragm clutch and 5 speed CR (elec. O/drive) transmission coupled to a factory LSD. Wheels include Simmons; Ware and Mawer. Holley electric fuel pump with pressure regulator from 100 Litre alloy (Bathurst) tank. Unique all-steel roll over protection (ROP) extends through rear deck into boot attached to rear of chassis. Unique water pressure gauge - reduced engine speed of (say) 1000RPM - reduces water pressure hence reduces engine temperature up to 10 degrees essential at Bathurst. Exhaust system based on the Cosworth Sprint F3 car added in 2012. Engine and gearbox freshly rebuilt, 2013. Engine machined by Wellco Engineering (Don Stafford) yet to be run in. All technical information supplied by vendor. Spares include NOS panels, complete front end assy and sub-frame, LSD (complete), gearbox, block with steel caps and girdle plate, head, and various other NOS parts including suspension parts and ventilated rotors including a rare pair of new rotor castings (not machined).
