Lot Description:Attributed To Kitty Kantilla
(circa 1928-2003)
Untitled (tutini) (late 1960s)
natural earth pigments on carved hardwood
244 cm high -
Provenance:Executed at Paru, Melville Islands, Northern Territory; Private Collection, Western Australia
-
Notes:The Illortamini family (including a young Kitty Kantilla) were part of an innovative group of sculptors which became entrenched at Paru in the 1960s.1 Although this particular tutini exudes great similarities to Kitty's carvings, an attribution at this stage has been given. It is certainly by one of the Illortamini clan. 1 Jennifer Isaacs, Tiwi: Art/History/Culture, the Miegunyah Press, Melbourne, 2012, p. 7
