    THE GOLD COMMISSIONER'S CAMP AT CRESWICK CREEK
    February 1857 envelope from Ballarat to "Stanley Wyman Esq., Gold Office Camp, Creswick's Creek" with 1d and 3d "Half-Length" stamps (lithographed in Melbourne by Campbell & Ferguson) and tied by the barred numeral cancellation "5" of Ballarat. The envelope with fine strikes of the unframed oval datestamps for "BALLARAT" and "CRESWICK'S Ck" on reverse. With Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria [1995] Certificate of Authenticity and accompanied by biographical research about Wyman.
  • Notes:
    Creswick was established during the Victorian Gold Rush 1850s. The Post Office opened on 1 Sept.1854 named "Creswick's Creek" until around 1857. The population reached a peak of 25,000 during the gold rush.?
