Lot Description:An ivory Madurese Krishilt, Madura, Indonesia, 19th century
The design of this intricately carved ivory hit is known as the donoriko, characterised by a massive upper section, the so-called head, which is rounded and bent forward, with two protruberances at the sides that look like ears.
8.7cm high, including stand 14cm high -
Notes:This rare hilt is carved with the legendary winged horse Jaran Semberani,also known as Kuda Panoleh, which was the emblem of the Madurese Sultan of Sumenep and only members of the royal household could have this mythological horse on their kris hilts.
