  • Notes:
The motif of the Dutch coat of arms with its crowned lions shown in the second band highlights the Dutch presence in the Netherlands Indies, and it came into being during the reign of Queen Wilhelmina (r. 19=890-1948). The motif in the central band of this hinggiis an adaptation of a design from Indian patola textiles, prestigious trade cloths. A textile of this kind was one of the most important items used in a ritual gift exchange system, so prominent in traditional Sumbanese culture.
