    A pounamu hei tiki
    modelled in flexed stance, head tilted with chin to right shoulder, eyes inset with red sealing wax, hands clasped to sides, the forehead pierced with hour-glass suspension hole. Kawakawa variety nephrite. An old hand-written label in Maori affixed to the back. Oral history recounts the gifting of this tiki to the current owner's maternal great grandfather, a Mr Roy, a dairy engineer in the Taranaki region, c.1870. Height 94, Y15901.
