    A 19thC sewing box
    decorated in black lacquer and gilt penwork with chinoiserie landscapes in rondels. The interior exquisitely fitted with sewing implements, canisters, boxes and bottles in ivory, lacquer, gilt metal and cut glass along with a number of mother-of-pearl handled and 'jewelled' implements. A drawer in the front holds sewing implements including ivory bobbin clamps along with an almanac from 1824 and a letter of correspondence from 1943 referencing the offering of the box by Mrs Frances Leslie to raise funds for the Missions to Seamen. The correspondence details the box as belonging to her grandmother and infers that it was a wedding present dating to 1824. The box with some distress including a crack to the top. 435 x 280 x 140.
