Lot Description:A Set of Edward VII Royal Presentation Gold and Enamel Cufflinks with Interesting Provenance
Double oval plate and chain design in 18ct yellow gold, each decorated with a portrait of 'Britannia' seated and holding a trident in polychrome enamels. Verso each plate engraved 'From Edward VII 1903'. In original box from Grant & Son Carlisle. The cufflinks were presented to (then) Captain Charles Eustace Anson by the King in recognition of Captain Anson's service as Commander of the Royal Yacht `Osborne', a command which he held from 1901 - 1904. Anson went on to achieve flag rank as Rear-Admiral in 1911 and was awarded both M.V.O. and C.B. honours. A letter dated 1966 outlines the history of the gift and its recipient, together with provenance of direct descent to the vendor, the Admiral's niece. -
