  We are not certain which event this gold medal was awarded for, it would have been one of the 4 x 220 yard men's freestyle swimming relay final held on 23 November 1962, the 440 yard men's freestyle swimming final held on 27 November 1962, or the 4 x 110 yard men's freestyle swimming relay final held on 28 November 1962.< The obverse embossed '19 [imperial crown] 62 | VII BRITISH EMPIRE | and | COMMONWEALTH | GAMES | PERTH | WESTERN | AUSTRALIA' surrounded by a pentagonal chain of rectangular links. The reverse embossed with a wreath of kangaroo paw flowers and leaves surmounted by the coat of arms of the City of Perth. Indistinctly embossed to the bottom edge 'K.G. LUKE. MELB.'
