Lot Description:An Extremely Rare Steiff Black Mourning Bear.1912 Steiff 'TitanicBear'
Some wear around muzzle, button removed. Original footpads. Excellent condition. H.520mm. Note: After the sinking of the Titanic on April 14th 1912 the whole of England was plunged into mourning and Steiff responded by producing black mohair bears to mark the disaster. Within weeks they were displayed in shop windows throughout London and sold out almost overnight. -
