• Notes:
  In the first half of 1940 Nolan moved briefly into a pink-painted studio above a greengrocer's shop on Russell Street, opposite the Melbourne Museum. There, in June he held his first one man show, covered by the leading newspapers, opened by John Reed and favourably reviewed by George Bell. Despite this he sold nothing.
