Lot Description:USA model 1840 cavalry sabre
by repute originally belonged to William Borne, a cavalry officer in the Confederate forces, with a brass quillon, stamped no. 29 wood grip with wire binding. -
Notes:Missing leather, faintly stamped with makers' mark to ricasso "W&C" (Wester & Co.) German maker, 35 1/2 inch 900mm steel blade, 1 1/4 inch 30mm wide at widest point, comes with metal scabbard, painted white (possible KKK association), this sword is believed to have been used during the US Civil war 1861-1865, also comes with a later purpose made wooden wall mount with painted flags, reproduction CSA belt buckle etc.
