  • Notes:
An article in the South Australian Register of Saturday 8th October 1892 reports as follows: “WEDNESDAY HALF-HOLIDAY IN THE EASTERN SUBURBS The cricket season in connection with the above was opened by Sir Edwin Smith, K.C.M.G., on Wednesday afternoon. The Mayor of Kensington and Norwood (MR. J. Hall, President of the club), presented Sir Edwin Smith, on behalf of the Association and Cricket Club, with a walking stick made from acacia wood grown on Sir Edwin’s estate. The stick was beautifully mounted and suitably inscribed. In thanking the donors for the present, Sir Edwin enumerated the number of sticks he had had presented to him by different clubs of which he was Patron - seven in all - but on account of the wood being grown on his property he specially prized this one. Following the presentation Sir Edwin bowled the first ball to the Mayor, who had not forgotten the good old game, and cut it to leg. The stroke was greeted with three ringing cheers. Refreshments were partaken of in the pavilion.”
