Lot Description:A Warrior's Sword, Nias Island, Indonesia
this sword type was owned by Chiefs, noblemen and important warriors. The carved hilt is a mythical creature known as 'Lasara'. This creature always has a wide-open mouth with its tongue sticking out, large curved teeth and small horns on both sides.

Notes:The scabbard is of dark timber with its two halves secured together by bands of braided rattan. The scabbard is decorated in what is referred to as a 'magic ball' which is highly decorated with boars tusks, a symbol of great power.
