    Illustrated: Lithographed by J.S. Templeman, "The Colonial Eye", page 41, Barbara Chapman, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth, 1979. Lieutenant Dale had a brief but illustrious period in Western Australia from 1829-1833. He was the first European to cross the Darling Range and explored the York and Helena Valley district and the country north of King George Sound. Mount Dale in the Darling Range and the Dale River were named after him.
